Former Libyan ambassador to Bahrain and Oman, Mohamed Khalifa Al-Akrout, has advised Libyan political leaders not to be drawn into Algeria’s policies and its conflict with Morocco over regional issues, stressing that this could threaten the strategic relations between Libya and Morocco.
In a Facebook post, Al-Akrout expressed his concern about bias towards the Algerian side, stressing the need to deal neutrally and in a balanced manner with both Algeria and Morocco, without sacrificing the distinguished relations with either of them, especially since Libya and Morocco have common interests and a long history of cooperation.
Al-Akrout called for adopting a positive neutrality approach in dealing with regional issues, especially those related to historical conflicts between countries, stressing the need to prioritize Libyan national interests and build balanced regional relations away from any external influences.
