Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, commended the National Oil Corporation’s (NOC) decision to halt crude oil-for-fuel swap transactions and called for further measures to enhance transparency and restore the Libyan people’s trust in the vital oil sector.
This came during a meeting between Tetteh and Masoud Suleiman, the acting Chairman of the NOC, in Tripoli yesterday, as part of a series of introductory meetings the UN envoy is conducting with Libyan officials.
During the meeting, Tetteh emphasized the NOC’s commitment to transparency and accountability in all its operations and contracting procedures, noting that this is a fundamental step to ensuring sound management of the country’s resources.
Tetteh also urged further steps to enhance the Libyan people’s trust in the oil sector, which is the backbone of the national economy, stressing the need for citizens to feel that their country’s wealth is being managed fairly and transparently.
