The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reiterated its rejection of Al-Hilal club’s request to accredit Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benghazi as a virtual home ground for their first-leg match against Al-Ahly in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Al-Hilal club clarified in an official statement that this request was made due to the exceptional circumstances the team is facing, as the club aspired to hold the match in Benghazi, taking into account the current security and logistical situations.
For its part, CAF emphasized its rejection of virtual stadiums in continental competitions, stressing the need to meet all security and infrastructure standards set by CAF.
Consequently, CAF has decided to move the match to an alternative stadium, which will be determined later, according to official directives.
