Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi today received Libyan National Army Commander, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, in Cairo, in the presence of Egyptian Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad. The meeting emphasized the distinctive relationship between Egypt and Libya, with President Sisi noting that Libya’s stability is directly linked to Egypt’s national security.
President Sisi stressed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Libya’s stability and unity, as well as its efforts to restore the country’s development path. He confirmed Egypt’s support for all initiatives aimed at achieving these objectives. He also highlighted the importance of coordinating efforts among Libyan parties to create a comprehensive political roadmap that would lead to the simultaneous conduct of presidential and parliamentary elections. President Sisi called for the prevention of foreign interference and the removal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory.
The Egyptian President expressed his appreciation for the role played by the Libyan National Army in combating terrorism, which resulted in the elimination of terrorist organizations in eastern Libya.
In turn, Marshal Haftar expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in restoring stability to Libya, praising the continuous efforts Egypt has made to support the Libyan people since the onset of the crisis, within the framework of the historical relationship between the two countries. Haftar also praised Egypt’s vital role in transferring Egypt’s developmental experience to Libya and Libya’s benefit from the expertise of Egyptian companies in this field. He emphasized the continued efforts to resolve the situation in Libya, which would contribute to restoring stability and development.
