This legend tells the story of a dog who sought happiness through servitude. He chose to become a servant to a master who would give him a single bone each day. The dog was overjoyed with this bone until he fathered pups for whom the single bone was no longer enough.
Despite his pups’ hunger, the dog couldn’t obtain more food. Masters only gave once, a single bone. Thus, he was forced to sacrifice his bone to feed his pups.
But as the pups grew, giving up his bone wasn’t enough. The dog then began offering parts of his own body to feed them, starting with his right leg, and then his left.
On the third day, the dog was unable to go to work due to his injuries. This angered his master, who punished him by withholding that day’s bone. At this point, the dog saw no escape from sacrificing himself to satiate his starving pups, closing his eyes, and surrendering to his fate.
