Dutch Ambassador to Libya: We agree with Aguila Saleh on Elections and National Reconciliation

Joost Klarenbeek, the Dutch Ambassador to Libya, recently met with the House of Representatives’ speaker, and several representatives during his visit to Benghazi.
Klarenbeek described the meeting as productive, highlighting that the discussions centered on the political process in Libya.
In a statement shared on his account on “X,” the ambassador stated, “We agreed on the necessity of holding elections, ensuring inclusivity, and forming a unified government.” He emphasized that achieving national reconciliation, including transitional justice, is a vital priority for Libya’s stability.
The Ambassador also underscored the importance of adopting a human rights-based approach and enhancing the role of women in both society and political life as essential components of the reconciliation process.
Klarenbeek pointed out the opportunities for bilateral cooperation between Libya and the Netherlands, noting the potential to strengthen collaboration through the Netherlands’ co-chairmanship of the Human Rights Working Group as part of the Libyan peace process.
