Moussa Al-Koni criticizes leaders for missing reconciliation ceremony in Addis Ababa

elmenassa-Eng-web

Vice Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Moussa Al-Koni,  placed the blame for delaying reconciliation on the shoulders of Libyan leaders in east and west Libya who did not sign the reconciliation charter.

Several prominent Libyan political leaders were absent from the signing ceremony of the National Reconciliation Charter held on Friday in Addis Ababa. This absence sparked discontent from the deputy head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Moussa Al-Koni, who held the political leaders in the east and west of the country responsible for this inaction delaying Libya’s achievement of peace and reunification.

In statements on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Al-Koni expressed his regret for the absence of these leaders, stressing that the country was eagerly awaiting this historic event, which was scheduled to witness a high-level international and regional presence.

Despite this absence, representatives of other Libyan parties signed the reconciliation charter, in the presence of some African leaders, headed by the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Chairman of the High-Level Committee of the African Union on Libya, Denis Sassou Nguesso, along with the head of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki.

The Commissioner of the African Union for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Bankole Adeoye, described this event as historic, considering it an important step towards achieving peace and reconciliation in Libya.

It is worth noting that the Libyan Presidential Council has been working for some time on the national reconciliation project, and seeks to hold a comprehensive conference with the support of the African Union and the United Nations Mission, but its efforts have been hampered by internal divisions.

Observers hope that the reconciliation charter signed in Addis Ababa will restore momentum to the national reconciliation efforts.
