After years of waiting, Benghazi International Stadium has regained its splendor and reopened in its new form. The stadium witnessed historical moments in Libyan football, but it turned into a deserted ruin after the withdrawal of several international companies that were unable to complete its reconstruction.
After years of waiting, the Development and Reconstruction Fund of Libya, led by Engineer Al-Qassem Haftar, announced the launch of the stadium’s reconstruction project, bringing it back to the forefront as an architectural masterpiece reflecting the resilient spirit of Benghazi.
The stadium has been equipped with the latest international specifications, including a hybrid turf pitch, a modern roof, and advanced facilities, to host international matches and major sporting events.
The opening of Benghazi International Stadium is considered a new phase for Libyan sports, and a golden opportunity for Libyan fans to support their national team in their quest to qualify for the World Cup.
Reconstruction… A National Achievement Under the General Command’s Supervision
The reconstruction of Benghazi International Stadium was carried out under the direct directives of the General Commander of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, who paid great attention to this project and conducted several field visits to monitor the work progress, expressing his pride and appreciation for this project, which represents a qualitative leap in the development of sports infrastructure in Libya.
This project falls within a comprehensive development plan led by the Development and Reconstruction Fund of Libya, aimed at restoring and revitalizing vital facilities.
Global Specifications Meeting the Future
With dimensions of 105×68 meters, the stadium’s pitch was equipped with the latest hybrid turf technology, ensuring high-performance quality and long-term sustainability. It also features a modern roof design consisting of 227 struts, with 42 pillars, capable of withstanding extreme climatic conditions, while the external cladding was manufactured with fire and weather-resistant materials, according to the highest international standards.
To ensure public safety, the stadium was equipped with 10 main entrances for the audience, in addition to 24 emergency exits, while its total capacity exceed 40,000 spectators, with seats designated for VIPs, media personnel, and people with special needs.
Advanced Facilities and Modern Equipment
The stadium boasts a wide array of modern facilities, most notably:
* A multi-level VIP building featuring a presidential lounge, a platform, and luxurious suites.
* Dedicated spaces for prayer, restrooms, cafes, restaurants, shops, and storage areas.
* modern elevators.
* A press conference hall, analytical studios, and equipped changing rooms for teams.
* A live broadcast platform equipped with over 100 cameras.
