The Egyptian Ministry of Transport has announced the prioritization of a massive project aimed at building a land route connecting Egypt with Libya and Chad, describing it as a vital “trade artery” for economic development in the region.
The ministry explained in a statement that the project consists of three main sectors, the first sector extends within Egyptian territory for 400 kilometers, the second sector extends within Libyan territory for 390 kilometers, the third sector extends from the Chadian border to the city of Abéché, passing through Amdjarass, for 930 kilometers.
The ministry indicates that Egyptian companies are working currently to implement the first sector within Egyptian territory, from East Owainat area to the Kufra crossing
Regarding the second and third sectors, memoranda of understanding have been signed between the Arab Contractors Company and the Libyan and Chadian governments, to begin conducting surveying and environmental studies, and preliminary design work for the road.
