The National Council for Liberties and Human Rights, represented by expert Hisham Al-Basti from the General Reporting Office, participated in two intensive workshops last week to discuss and address the issue of missing persons in Libya, organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with support from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
This participation comes within the Council’s ongoing commitment to promoting human rights and supporting justice in Libya. The workshops brought together experts and specialists from various Libyan entities, including the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministries of Defense, Interior, and Justice, the Martyrs and Prisoners Affairs Authority, the General Authority for Searching for Missing Persons, the Presidential Council, the House of Representatives, and the State Council, as well as academics and representatives of civil society organizations.
The two workshops aimed to enhance the participation of victims and missing persons’ families 8in the search for truth and ensure accountability through supporting building more responsive and transparent security and justice institutions. Emphasis was also placed on establishing a legislative framework.
During its participation, the National Council for Liberties and Human Rights reiterated its unwavering commitment to a human rights approach, supporting all national and international efforts to address the missing persons file, which is considered one of the most important human rights files in Libya, to achieve justice and fairness for their families.
