Ministry of Women's Affairs GNU emphasizes pivotal role of women in nation-building

On International Women’s Day, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in the Government of National Unity, led by Minister Houria Tormal, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and empowering Libyan women in building the nation’s future.

The ministry issued an official statement reflecting its deep appreciation for the sacrifices and valuable contributions of Libyan women in various fields of life. The ministry emphasized in its statement that Libyan women have always been and continue to be genuine partners in the development process, holding leadership positions in vital sectors such as medicine, education, and engineering, in addition to their active role in scientific research and entrepreneurship.

The ministry stressed that respecting and appreciating the role of women reflects the noble values and authenticity of society, citing the Prophet’s saying: “Women are the twin halves of men; only the generous are good to them, and only the vile mistreat them.”

In this context, the ministry called on all officials and national leaders to take concrete steps to enhance the status of Libyan women by:

 * Expanding the scope of women’s participation: Granting women equal opportunities in leadership positions and participate effectively in decision-making at all levels.

 * Protecting rights and providing a supportive environment: Ensuring women’s rights and providing a safe and stimulating work environment that promotes the principle of equal opportunities.

 * Developing the legislative framework: Enacting laws and legislation that support the status of women and protect their rights in all fields.

The ministry affirmed in its statement that empowering women is not a grant but a vital investment in Libya’s future. It added that the concerted efforts of all segments of society, men and women, are the best way to build a more just and prosperous society.

The ministry concluded its statement by extending its warmest congratulations to Libyan women on their International Day, expressing its hope that the men of the nation will remain supportive of them in building the nation’s future.
