The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) issued a statistical report revealing achievements in protecting and promoting children’s rights during 2024 despite Libya’s challenging political and economic status. The report highlights are as follows;
Healthcare:
- Operating 59 medical facilities and expanding healthcare access to two million people.
- Supporting 712 vaccination centers, resulting in the immunization of 460,000 children against routine diseases, and protecting 700,000 children from polio, measles, and rubella.
Education:
- Launching an educational information management system in 200 schools and completing data entry in 69 other schools, enhancing the quality of education.
- Training over 3,000 teachers under the “21st Century Teacher” program to develop teaching methods.
- Providing educational opportunities for 38,000 children through “Bayati” and youth centers and offering summer tutoring for over 7,000 students.
Clean Water:
- Establishing 33 solar-powered water systems in flood-affected areas, providing safe water to 170,000 people.
- Repairing 53 wells and providing clean water to 118,000 people.
Psychological Support and Social Protection:
- Providing mental health and psychological support services to 100,000 individuals, focusing on the most vulnerable groups.
- Referring more than 3,000 children to health and education services and strengthening family and child protection units.
- Supporting the development of Libya’s first national social protection strategy and establishing a unified social registry.
The report emphasizes the importance of strengthening data systems, supporting social protection coordination, and adopting innovative solutions in health, education, and water and sanitation to ensure the sustainability of UNICEF’s projects in Libya.
