A new analysis issued by the Russian Agroexport” Center revealed an 18% decrease in the volume of agricultural products imported by Libya from Russia during 2024. This decline pushed Libya to third place among African importing countries.
In contrast, Egypt witnessed a notable increase in its imports of Russian agricultural products, occupying the first position among African countries with a growth rate of 21%. Algeria ranked second with a limited growth of 1.5%.
The report confirmed that wheat and barley constitute the largest share of Russian food exports to the African continent, representing 87% of total exports, in addition to other products such as vegetable oils.
Furthermore, data issued by the Central Bank of Libya revealed that Russia became the fourth-largest exporter to the Libyan private sector during January and February 2024, with export values estimated at approximately $179.344 million.
