Mukhtar Al-Madani, the Mayor of Sirte Municipality, issued an urgent decision to form a specialized field committee to monitor and combat the locust infestation threatening the region.
Decision No. 15 of 2025 is a response to increasing reports of locust proliferation, stipulating that the formed committee shall undertake the task of precise field monitoring of the locust infestation throughout the municipality.
The committee’s tasks included taking immediate necessary measures to combat the infestation if infections are confirmed in any of the municipality’s areas.
The mayor emphasized the importance of providing detailed daily reports on the field situation, stressing that the decision would be effective from the date of its issuance.
This swift action comes after many areas, particularly in the south, expressed their deep concern about the spread of locusts, warning of the risks of the situation worsening and turning into an environmental disaster that threatens crops and food security.
