The Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, held a meeting with Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, on Thursday in Algeria, as part of her regional consultation tour.
Tetteh praised Algeria’s active role in the UN Security Council and provided the Foreign Minister with a detailed overview of her recent meetings in Libya, as well as the activities of the Advisory Committee.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a range of regional issues, including security developments and their impact on Libya, while emphasizing the critical role of Libya’s neighboring countries in supporting efforts to achieve political and security stability. Attaf stressed the need for continued involvement by international and regional actors in Libya’s political process to overcome the current impasse. He also reiterated Algeria’s commitment to supporting the Special Representative and the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in their future endeavors.
