Swedish authorities, in cooperation with their Dutch counterparts, have handed over a 51-year-old Libyan man to the Netherlands, suspected of involvement in a murder that occurred in the Dutch city of Rotterdam in 2003.
This handover follows years of investigations into the case, the details date back to September 14, 2003, when the body of a 33-year-old Tunisian man was found on “Dovenfordstraat” in the Middelland district of Rotterdam.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim had suffered a violent assault leading to his death, but the case remained unsolved for many years.
In a surprising development in 2019, authorities identified a DNA match of the suspect in a Swedish DNA database, reopening the 16-year case. However, the suspect was not available at that time, remaining internationally wanted until his recent arrest in Sweden.

Following his transfer to the Netherlands, the court decided to extend his pre-trial detention for 14 days, starting from last Monday, to continue investigations into the case.
The Dutch Public Prosecution Service expressed satisfaction with the arrest, confirming that the investigations have made significant progress since the suspect’s apprehension and will continue without interruption.
Nevertheless, Dutch police emphasized that they cannot currently provide any additional information about the ongoing investigation, pending the completion of legal procedures.
