Mustafa Abdel Kabir, head of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights, revealed the recent detention of over 50 Tunisian citizens, including minors, in Libya, noting that most were engaged in trade activities.
Abdel Kabir added that Libyan authorities confiscated 25 vehicles belonging to the detained Tunisians and relocated them to inland areas, while the detainees were transferred to a prison in Tripoli.
The Observatory urged Tunisian and Libyan authorities to intervene urgently, citing repeated targeting of Tunisians in Libya through arbitrary arrests and assaults.
Local sources linked the measures to a prior incident in Tunisia where a Libyan citizen was sentenced to 5 years in prison after being found in possession of couscous, escalating tensions between the two nations.
