The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) joined global efforts to combat climate change by participating in the “Earth Hour” initiative yesterday evening. The mission turned off unnecessary lights and electrical appliances for one hour, in a symbolic step to emphasize the importance of rationalizing energy consumption and bearing shared responsibility in protecting the environment. “Earth Hour” is an annual global event held on the last Saturday of March, during which countries around the world unite to turn off lights for one hour. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the challenges of climate change and encourage individuals and institutions to take practical steps towards environmental sustainability. The campaign was launched in 2007 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and has since become one of the largest environmental movements worldwide.
