South Korean authorities announced today, Sunday, a tragic toll from the wildfires sweeping through several areas in the south of the country, with 4 people dead and 6 others injured.
The Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) reported in its English-language report that the fires, which first broke out in the “Sancheong” area of South Gyeongsang Province last Friday, have resulted in the evacuation of more than 1,500 people from their homes. In addition, the fires have destroyed ten houses in the “Sancheong” area and 24 houses in the “Uiseong” area. Since last Friday, Korean authorities have mobilized extensive efforts to combat the fires burning simultaneously, deploying more than 4,800 personnel, including firefighters, and about a hundred helicopters have been used to assist in firefighting operations.
