A recent report issued by Asharq Bloomberg, titled “Mercato Al-Sharq 2024,” has revealed a significant jump in the spending of the Libyan football league on purchasing players from abroad during 2024, with an astonishing increase of 155%, reaching $3.8 million US dollars.
The report, published this March, clarified that the total spending of Libyan clubs across all levels on the international transfer market amounted to $7.3 million US dollars during the period spanning from 2020 to 2024. With this, Libya ranks fifth among Arab countries in terms of the volume of spending on attracting foreign players. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia topped the list of the highest-spending Arab countries, with an expenditure of $1.6 billion US dollars, followed by Qatar in second place with $394.7 million US dollars, then the United Arab Emirates in third place with $175.4 million US dollars, and Egypt in fourth place with an expenditure of $38.9 million US dollars.
