The Arab World Institute in Paris has unveiled the first edition of its Arab World Institute Fashion Prize, an initiative exclusively dedicated to Arab designers—both residents and diaspora—to position the Arab region as a global platform for emerging fashion talent. The competition targets two main categories: Emerging talents, which honor young designers with innovative vision and growth potential, and innovative talents, which reward the use of cutting-edge techniques, sustainable materials, or unconventional technological solutions in design.
Open to nationals of Arab League countries, including Libya, applications can be submitted via the institute’s website from March 15 to June 15, 2024. A judging panel will convene in July to select ten finalists per category, with winners announced during a special ceremony at Paris Fashion Week in October. Organizers emphasized that designs integrating eco-friendly practices or contributing to social well-being will be prioritized.
This initiative aligns with the institute’s mission, established in 1980 as a cultural bridge between France and the Arab world, to champion Arab creativity and elevate the region’s global standing. It coincides with a surge in the Arab fashion scene, marked by successful fashion weeks in Riyadh, Dubai, Casablanca, and Beirut, alongside Arab designers gaining international acclaim through their contributions to high-profile artistic events
