Hussein Al-Buraiki, an official with the National Desert Locust Control Committee, warned of a sharp escalation of the locust crisis in Libya, emphasizing the unprecedented spread of locust swarms in southern regions, which portends an imminent environmental catastrophe.
Al-Buraiki attributed the exacerbation of the crisis to irregular winds that contribute to the widespread dispersal of locusts and to locusts entering the mating and egg-laying stage, which signals the emergence of new generations.
He also pointed out that the lack of resources in some areas significantly hinders efforts to combat this crisis, making it more difficult to contain the situation.
