The Internal Security Agency has disclosed the implementation of a series of measures against several international humanitarian organizations, due to their involvement in operations aimed at resettling migrants and other activities described as hostile.
In a statement, the agency confirmed the suspension of the activities of ten international humanitarian organizations, in addition to the closure of the headquarters of several foreign non-governmental organizations operating in the country.
The agency stated, via a post on its official Facebook page, that the targeted organizations seek to “resettle migrants of African origin,” considering the “plan to resettle African migrants” a hostile act. The statement pointed to the alleged involvement of the Italian non-governmental organization “Terra di Uomini” (Land of Humans) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in migrant resettlement operations, stressing the need for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take the necessary actions following international law.
The Internal Security Agency also reported that initial investigations revealed that some international organizations provided support for what it described as “atheistic thought” under the guise of freedoms and human rights.
In a related context, the headquarters of the International Medical Corps, the Danish Refugee Council, the Italian organization “CESVI,” and other organizations were closed due to their alleged involvement in “hostile activities,” smuggling operations, and money laundering.
The statement also indicated the alleged involvement of the French organization “Médecins Sans Frontières” (Doctors Without Borders) in training Libyan doctors on safe abortion procedures, which was considered contrary to Islamic law and without informing the concerned authorities.
