Libya’s Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development has published a new book titled “A Pioneer from the South” by author Aisha Al-Asfar, as part of its efforts to promote local creativity and celebrate Libyan cultural achievements.
The 56-page book chronicles Al-Asfar’s groundbreaking journey as the first Libyan woman to pilot an aircraft at Sabha Aviation Club in 1974, highlighting the challenges she overcame in a male-dominated field.
It also explores her diverse literary works, including novels like “The One Who Killed the Dog”and short story collections such as “The Imperfect Past”, which have enriched Libya’s cultural landscape. The ministry emphasized that this publication aligns with its mission to empower Libyan women’s creativity and encourage their active participation in cultural and scientific fields alongside men, noting Al-Asfar’s inspirational role through her engagements in literary forums both locally and internationally
