Zella Archaeological Castle is facing increasing deterioration due to repeated acts of vandalism and the absence of regular maintenance work. This situation has necessitated precautionary measures by the concerned authorities, including closing the site to vehicular traffic and allowing visits only on foot, to preserve what remains of this important historical landmark.
Under these difficult circumstances, the residents of the area surrounding the castle have made an urgent appeal to the relevant state authorities, particularly to the General Authority for Antiquities and the Ministry of Tourism, demanding immediate and urgent intervention to maintain and restore the castle, emphasizing its high historical and cultural value as an integral part of the national heritage that deserves all forms of protection and care.
Local residents hope that the Zella Archaeological Castle will be included in a comprehensive national plan aimed at protecting antiquities and historical sites throughout Libya, and promoting sustainable cultural tourism and local development by preserving this rich historical heritage for future generations.
