Mellitah Oil & Gas Company announced today, Tuesday, the arrival of the offshore drilling rig “Vali Rig,” belonging to the British company “Borr Drilling,” to the structure A area. This rig will be commencing drilling operations for eight new natural gas wells in deep waters, with drilling works expected to reach a maximum depth of approximately 100 m below the sea surface.
Mellitah added in an official statement that the drilling operations are scheduled to continue for 15 months, amidst positive expectations that this new project will contribute to adding around 160 million cubic feet of natural gas to the current production.
Mellitah praised in its statement the anticipated positive outcomes of this vital project, which are expected to significantly contribute to providing sustainable supplies of natural gas necessary for the operation of iron factories, cement factories, and power generation plants throughout Libya. Data issued by the National Oil Corporation during the past week had shown that natural gas production rates in Libya had recorded high levels exceeding the threshold of two billion cubic meters per day, while the NOC is striving to increase the current production volume through close cooperation with its international partners, to meet the country’s growing domestic consumption needs and enhance Libya’s export capabilities in the global gas market.
