Harry Maguire has ruled out any possibility of leaving Manchester United before his contract expires in the summer of 2026, describing the idea of a departure as “foolish”.
Speaking at a club charity event, the 32-year-old centre-back expressed unwavering commitment to United, calling the experience of playing for the club “incredible”. He voiced confidence in the new leadership under sporting director Jason Wilcox and manager Ruben Amorim, noting that the dressing room atmosphere has transformed into one of energy and optimism following a turbulent season.
Maguire’s future at Old Trafford had appeared uncertain in 2023 after he was stripped of the captaincy. However, he opted to stay and fight for his place, eventually re-establishing himself as a key figure in the squad. In January, the club activated a one-year extension clause in his contract, securing his services until 2026 on a reported weekly wage of £190,000.
Reflecting on his journey, Maguire offered advice to younger teammates, urging them to develop mental resilience and ignore criticism after poor performances. “You have to be strong mentally and not pay attention to the noise after a bad game,” he said. “Criticism is part of playing for a club of Manchester United’s stature.”
