A field team has successfully recovered 20 stolen archaeological artifacts after they were documented and safely transported to the headquarters of the Antiquities Control Department of Leptis Magna for preservation and study by specialists. The artifacts had been hidden inside a private rest house in Al-Amamra area after being illegally moved from various archaeological sites in the region.
This joint operation was a result of cooperation between the Public Prosecution Office in Al-Khums and the Libyan Antiquities Authority. The Authority confirmed that the operation was carried out under the supervision of the Antiquities Controller of Leptis Magna, with the participation of archaeological researchers and a technical restoration team, in addition to support from the Tourist Police and Al-Amamra Police Station.
In a related context, the Antiquities Authority warned citizens against tampering with or trading in archaeological pieces, affirming that such actions lead to strict legal accountability.
