Addressing the General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, reiterated Tunisia’s unwavering position that any resolution to the Libyan crisis must be exclusively Libyan-led and rooted in national sovereignty.
Speaking under the session’s theme, “Together for Peace, Development, and Human Rights—Eighty Years and Beyond,” Nafti emphasized Tunisia’s principled support for the Libyan people’s right to determine their own future, free from external imposition. He stressed that national consensus remains the cornerstone of sustainable stability in Libya.
The minister also voiced Tunisia’s endorsement of the UN Secretary-General’s “United Nations 80” initiative, aimed at revitalizing the organization’s role through institutional reform and renewed confidence in multilateralism. He underscored Tunisia’s commitment to collective responsibility in addressing global challenges and welcomed the designation of 2025 as a year to strengthen multilateral action and deepen cooperation with the United Nations.
In closing, Tunisia reaffirmed its steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate and inalienable rights, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital. The statement condemned the occupying power’s declared intent to fully reoccupy Gaza and forcibly displace its population, calling such actions unacceptable and contrary to international law.
