Houria Al-Tarmal, the Minister of State for Women’s Affairs in the Government of National Unity, received Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir Richardson, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and new Resident Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya, at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday morning (Monday) for an introductory meeting.
During this session, the two parties discussed viable means of advancing the concerns of Libyan women and bolstering partnership in the areas of providing protection and ensuring equal opportunities, in line with the national agenda and the priorities and needs of Libyan society. Minister Al-Tarmal also underscored the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the UN Mission and all its various programmes, to empower Libyan women, build their capacities, and support their effective participation at all levels of decision-making.
At the start of the engagement, Minister Al-Tarmal welcomed Ms. Richardson, wishing her success in her future duties. For her part, Richardson expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Minister of State for Women’s Affairs for the warm reception, reaffirming the United Nations’ firm commitment to continuing its support for programmes focused on empowering Libyan women and enhancing their status and presence across various development and social sectors.
