Sudan Health Ministry Reports 641 Cholera Cases and 3,126 Dengue Fever Infections

The Emergency Operations Centre convened its 109th regular meeting today at the federal Ministry of Health in Khartoum to conduct a review of health conditions across the states and assess the efforts undertaken by various departments to confront and combat diseases between September 20 and 26.
The Surveillance and Information Report revealed 641 cholera infections across 14 Sudanese states, with five states—South Kordofan (accounting for 38% of cases), Blue Nile, North Darfur, Central Darfur, and White Nile—registering the highest numbers. Furthermore, 3,126 cases of dengue fever were reported from seven states, with Khartoum State registering the highest proportion (78%), followed by Al-Jazira (13%), and White Nile (6%). Regarding hepatitis, 102 cases were reported, all originating from Al-Jazira State.
The Supply Report indicated a disparity in the availability of drugs and consumables for epidemics in the states’ supply fund stores, particularly those designated for cholera and dengue fever, while noting contributions provided by some organisations to several states. In this context, the National Public Health Laboratory Report detailed the samples examined at state laboratories and the supplies received, mentioning the enumeration of needs, coordination with the General Directorate of Health Emergencies, and the launch of several mobile laboratories.
The Environmental Health and Food Control Report highlighted various activities implemented, including the distribution of chlorine to several states and the transport of 16,528 tons of waste (representing 76% of the target). The report also addressed the control of insect aquatic stages both inside and outside homes, in addition to spraying, entomological surveys, and the distribution of mosquito nets in the localities of Atbara and Abu Hamad in River Nile State.
Separately, the Health Promotion Report confirmed the execution of numerous activities, including home visits in several states, with 22,621 homes visited out of a total target of 23,088 (a 96% completion rate), alongside various community interventions.
The General Directorate of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control in Khartoum presented its report on the state’s health situation. The Autumn Emergency Report indicated that three states—Al-Jazira, Northern, and White Nile—were affected, with 386 families and 1,876 individuals harmed across 21 affected localities. Regarding population movement, the Quarantine Report confirmed the arrival of 11,343 individuals through various entry points, the voluntary return of 7,760 people from Egypt, and 757 individuals presenting at emergency clinics.
In conclusion, the meeting acknowledged that clear efforts are being exerted despite the scarcity of resources, instructing the precise identification of interventions and activities carried out by organisations and offering thanks for their contributions. It also noted the provision of support to states and the installation of equipment in emergency centres across several regions.
