The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Counselor Aguila Saleh, discussed the means to advance the political roadmap facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) during a phone call with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Khouri.
Saleh reaffirmed the HoR’s commitment to coordinating with the High Council of State (HCS) to finalise the process as swiftly as possible.
Khouri, for her part, emphasised the crucial nature of completing the first two stages of the roadmap: amending the legislative and constitutional frameworks for elections and reconstituting the board of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC).
Khouri stressed the necessity for Libyan institutions to take the lead and assume their responsibilities, noting that Libya cannot afford further delays in implementing the initial steps toward unified and legitimate institutions.
