The humanitarian relief organisation Resqship has confirmed that its vessel, the Nadir, successfully brought 56 individuals, including several minors, to safety after they faced imminent peril off the Libyan coast. The migrants had been aboard an inflatable dinghy that had begun taking on significant amounts of water.
The aid group reported that the rescue operation took place on Sunday afternoon, with the crew promptly distributing life jackets before moving everyone safely aboard the ship, where necessary first aid was administered.
Resqship indicated that the group had set off from the Libyan shores two days prior and were suffering from severe exhaustion and acute dehydration, a consequence of enduring prolonged exposure to harsh conditions at sea. Following the designation of the Italian island of Lampedusa as a place of safety, the Nadir docked there late at night, allowing all survivors to be safely brought ashore.
