National Aquacultural Project Committee Assesses Model Farms to Boost Production in Eastern Region

A specialised committee was recently formed, under the directives of Dr. Masouda Bouarousha, Director-General of the National Project for Fisheries Farming (Aquaculture), with the mandate to evaluate fish farms in the Eastern Region. This initiative is part of the project’s ongoing efforts to monitor performance and enhance the quality of local fish production.
During its inspection tour, the committee visited a model fish farm operating under the private sector. The visit provided a direct review of the work progression, the breeding systems, and the production stages currently in use. Furthermore, the committee engaged in in-depth discussions on optimal strategies for developing these farms, with a particular focus on achieving both environmental and economic sustainability within this promising sector.
Concluding the visit, the committee underscored the vital role of aquaculture as a strategic alternative for bolstering the nation’s food security and reducing reliance on traditional marine fishing practices. The committee also highly commended the excellent technical and organisational standards observed at the model farm they assessed.
