An anti-security threat unit, specifically the “Zawia West Office,” has successfully dismantled an organised human trafficking network. The operation culminated in a raid on a so-called ‘campo’, a designated site for the assembly of irregular migrants. Three individuals were apprehended in connection with the ring: (A.M.Al), a Libyan national, (I.K.La), a Pakistani national, and (J.L.A), a Bangladeshi national. Crucially, the site was found to hold a total of 152 irregular migrants, of whom 26 were from Pakistan and the remainder were from Bangladesh.
Following the apprehension, and as part of its commitment to safeguarding the fundamental rights and well-being of the migrants, the Security Threat Agency coordinated with the Libyan Red Crescent and Emergency Medical Services to provide essential care, including food, drink, and necessary medical aid.
The legal process began with the drafting of an official report, which led to the public prosecutor’s agent issuing a warrant to raid the location. The suspects were subsequently arrested in flagrante delicto and transferred to the unit’s headquarters for necessary questioning. Once the investigations were complete, all those apprehended were referred to the Office of the Public Prosecutor to ensure due legal process is followed.
