Six young Libyan women, members of the second cohort of the United Nations in Libya’s “Raidat” (Pioneers) leadership training programme, have completed a three-day training trip to Rome, the Italian capital, funded and supported by the Italian government.
The trip was designed to expose the participants to international expertise in critical areas, including peacebuilding practices and women’s leadership in governance and decision-making processes. This was achieved through a series of meetings with government officials, diplomats, and organisations specialising in peace and development, with an emphasis on how these experiences could be practically applied to the Libyan context.
This visit to Rome served as the concluding phase of the programme. The six exceptional participants were announced during the second cohort’s graduation ceremony on 12 August, attended by the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Hannah Tetteh. Both officials reaffirmed Italy’s sustained commitment to supporting the empowerment of Libyan women and boosting their engagement in the political process.
