A Call for Repatriation of Libyan Funds

A Call for Repatriation of Libyan Funds

Intissar Trabelsi, the Minister Plenipotentiary at Libya’s Permanent Mission to the UN, has urged the international community to foster serious cooperation with Libya aimed at recovering its frozen assets and funds smuggled abroad. Speaking before the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly, Trabelsi affirmed that reclaiming this wealth constitutes an inalienable right for the Libyan people and serves as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable justice and development within the nation.
Impact of Recovered Revenues on Reconstruction
Trabelsi elaborated that injecting these recovered funds back into the national economy would yield tangible results, as they are slated to finance essential services and underpin stalled reconstruction and development projects. She stressed the critical need for the international community to uphold its commitment, ensuring the management of these assets remains fully transparent and equitable, strictly serving the supreme interest of the Libyan populace.
Increasing Burdens of Illegal Migration and Its Challenges
Separately, the Libyan envoy addressed the issue of illegal migration, noting that Libya is currently shouldering an increasing burden by virtue of being a pivotal transit country. This situation places significant strain on the nation’s limited economic resources and hampers its developmental ambitions.
Appeal for International Responsibility Sharing
Concluding her address, Trabelsi issued a direct appeal to developed nations for enhanced international partnership and practical responsibility sharing to confront the phenomenon of cross-border migration, seeking to establish balance and fairness in addressing this complex humanitarian and security matter.
