174 Bangladeshi Migrants Repatriated from Libya to Home Country

The Bangladeshi Embassy in Libya, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has successfully concluded a significant humanitarian mission to repatriate 174 Bangladeshi nationals from the city of Misrata back to their capital, Dhaka. This effort is designed to facilitate the voluntary return of individuals who were enduring acutely harsh living conditions in Libya.
The group of returnees included 21 people who had been held in the Tajoura detention centre, while 153 others returned voluntarily after facing severe living conditions in Misrata and surrounding areas. Worryingly, nine of the returnees required medical attention due to health issues they had suffered.
The flight, operated by Burak Air (Flight number UZ222), is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on 28 October 2025 at 2:00 PM local time.
Before their departure, Ambassador Major General Abu Hena Mohammad Khairul Bashar met with the returnees in Misrata to bid them farewell and ensure their safe journey. During his address, the Ambassador affirmed the embassy’s continuous commitment to the welfare and safety of expatriates, strongly emphasising the necessity of avoiding irregular migration due to the serious risks it poses to individuals’ lives and the nation’s reputation. He urged the returnees to disseminate awareness about these dangers and to take legal action against smuggling networks.
Ambassador Bashar further clarified that these actions are part of the embassy’s comprehensive plan to manage the voluntary return of any Bangladeshi citizen wishing to go home, following the completion of all necessary legal documentation and administrative procedures in coordination with the relevant Libyan authorities.
