Al Ahly Benghazi basketball squad is currently undergoing an intensive training camp in the Arab Republic of Egypt as part of its preparations for the qualifying rounds of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) tournament, which is scheduled to commence on October 17 in Mali.
The Libyan champions have been drawn into a group that includes CRBT Mali, AS Douanes Burkina Faso, and Centre Fédéral Guinea. Notably, only two teams from this grouping will progress to the next stage, the Round of 16, set to be hosted by Côte d’Ivoire next November.
The team played its first friendly match of the camp against Al Ahly SC of Egypt. Although Al Ahly Benghazi narrowly lost the game 79–73, their Egyptian coach, Ahmed Omar, achieved his primary objective: evaluating several players and enhancing their technical and physical readiness for the upcoming continental challenge.
The final score reflected a tightly contested game across the first three quarters. Following a 20-20 tie in the opening period, Al Ahly Benghazi took the advantage by winning the second and third quarters 21-14 and 22-21, respectively. However, Al Ahly SC ultimately secured the win by dominating the fourth quarter with a 24-10 scoreline
