The city of Benghazi is preparing to host the second iteration of the Libyan Heritage Carnival in the coming days, following the success of its inaugural event. Organised by Al-Watan Shooting and Equestrian Club in collaboration with the Libyan Authority for Heritage and Wildlife, the carnival is designed to revitalise national heritage and reinforce a unified Libyan cultural identity.
The event offers a comprehensive showcase of popular traditions through artistic, sporting, and poetic displays that reflect the community’s authenticity and cultural richness. Central to the programme is the showjumping competition, which will feature local and international riders coordinated and sponsored by Akarim Stables. Other highlights include camel and horse racing, displays of falconry and wild hunting, and poetry evenings with contributions from poets across the country. Staged amid broad official and communal support, the carnival aims to foster national belonging and provide a space for cultural and social convergence, cementing Benghazi’s status as a capital for culture and heritage.
