The sequence of meetings held by the House of Representatives’ Committee for Verification of Frozen Libyan Funds Abroad at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York concluded with an emphasis on the necessity of continued coordination with member states to ensure the management of frozen Libyan funds preserves the people’s rights and supports national stability.
In a related development, the Committee held a second engagement with the Mission of China to the UN. The Chinese side welcomed the Libyan delegation, stressing the strength of bilateral ties and insisting that these assets constitute an inalienable right of the Libyan people. Chinese officials signaled their commitment to actively working within the Security Council to protect these holdings and ensure their administration serves Libya’s highest interests. In turn, the Committee expressed its appreciation for China’s firm and unwavering support for Libyan rights, presenting them with official memos and documents detailing the file.
The initial meeting involved the Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the UN, attended by the Deputy Permanent Representative and the official handling the Libyan file. During this session, the Libyan delegation presented a comprehensive briefing on efforts to develop mechanisms for safeguarding and growing the assets, urging Bahrain to support Libyan initiatives internationally. The Bahraini Deputy Permanent Representative confirmed her country’s complete support, noting that Bahrain’s anticipated membership in the Security Council and its Sanctions Committee starting in January 2026 would bolster coordination on this pivotal issue.
