National Oil Corporation wins Nour 1 tanker case; former chairman weighs in

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced a legal victory on Sunday, confirming it had prevailed in the case brought against it by the owners of the oil tanker, Nour 1. The owners had spent years seeking financial compensation following damage sustained by the vessel during armed clashes in 2014.
In its official statement, the NOC clarified that its legal team had presented friendly settlement offers to the tanker’s owners over several years, but these were consistently rejected. The owners had instead demanded compensation covering the full value of the vessel alongside financial penalties, before the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) ruled in favour of the Corporation.
Commenting on the ruling via his Facebook account, the NOC’s former chairman, Mustafa Sanalla, hailed the win as “an accomplishment to be added to the Corporation’s record of successes, and not merely a legal judgment.” He commended the NOC’s decision to pursue judicial recourse and reject “any compromises” in the matter.
Sanalla also acknowledged the pivotal contribution of Marine Captain Maraj Abdulkarim Al-Barghathi, the former CEO of The General National Maritime Transport Company, who served as the technical advisor for the Corporation in the case, which was first filed nearly eleven years ago.
