The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, stressed that Libya has reached a “crucial turning point” demanding decisive action to overcome the current political impasse, affirming that the responsibility for change rests upon all Libyans.
The Commander-in-Chief called on national forces across the country to “unify their word and ranks in a single line” aimed at building a “New Libya,” urging everyone to shed the “cloak of negativity and dependency” and actively contribute to shaping the new national scene that paves the way for lasting stability and establishing a unified Libyan state built on solid foundations that safeguard national sovereignty, dignity, and rights.
In a speech delivered to the leaders, dignitaries, and elders of Fezzan tribes, Haftar asserted that “the time has come” for the people to issue their decisive verdict and declare their position on the tangled and failed political tracks that have been unable to resolve the crisis. He called on Libyans to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the nation’s condition and make a clear decision to launch a “new phase of serious national action” where the people are the “master and guardian of their own destiny.”
The Commander-in-Chief added that all people’s institutions are required to “completely submit to what the people decide in this movement,” and that the Armed Forces “We will stand against anyone who opposes the will and choices of the people.”
He explained that excluding the people from the process of self-determination and charting the roadmap for state-building has led to the “repetition of transitional phases” with similar outcomes, causing the political scene to deteriorate and halting the wheel of state-building. He stressed that the next phase must be the “product of a widespread popular movement” in which the vital national forces participate.
The Commander-in-Chief concluded his speech by affirming the role of the tribes, elders, and Libyan society in maintaining social cohesion and renouncing disputes, stating: “Just as you were a strong support for the ‘Dignity Battle’ against terrorism, we look today to your role in leading an organised national movement that addresses the crisis from its roots and shapes a prosperous future derived directly from the popular will.
