MP Ali Al-Soul Accuses UN Mission of Overstepping Its Mandate and Imposing Unacceptable Demands

Member of the House of Representatives, Ali Al-Soul, sharply criticised the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), accusing it of exceeding its designated remit and attempting to impose a new reality and dictates that are being rejected by the legislative authority (the House of Representatives) as a precondition for launching what is termed the “structured dialogue track.”
In televised comments to “Al-Massar” channel, Al-Soul argued that the UN mission had deviated from its intended supportive role, transforming into an administrator of the political scene, an action he claimed risks plunging the country back to “square one.”
The MP stressed that the UN mission’s attempts to broaden the scope of negotiations will inevitably complicate the political landscape and deepen existing divisions. He insisted that the immediate priority must be the establishment of a new, unified consensus government. and emphasised that this government’s mandate should be strictly limited to preparing the necessary ground for holding elections and unifying Libyan institutions, asserting that this process must be driven primarily by domestic stakeholders, rather than being dictated by external initiatives or agendas.
