The Ministry of State for Women’s Affairs, affiliated with the Government of National Unity, confirmed that women participated actively and notably, both in voting and candidacy, during the municipal elections held last Saturday, which covered 16 municipal councils (Group Three – 2025).
The Ministry of Women’s Affairs indicated that this strong presence confirms women’s pioneering role in driving community development and contributing to local decision-making, noting that these efforts reflect high awareness and responsibility toward building a better future for cities and municipalities.
For his part, Khaled Al-Mousi, Director of Awareness and Communication at the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), confirmed a distinctive turnout by women in the voting process across the 16 municipal councils.
Al-Mousi stated in remarks to Al-Manassa that the HNEC can accurately determine the precise percentage of female participation by monitoring the designated women’s polling stations, which are Station Number 2 in all electoral centres.
Al-Mousi clarified that the statistic announced yesterday was preliminary, and the final data revealing the exact proportion of male and female voters will become clear upon receipt of the final tallies from the polling stations, stressing that the ballot counting process remains confidential.
It is noted that the overall voter participation rate in these elections reached 68%, with a total of 63,169 voters casting ballots.
The elections took place in various municipalities, including Al Marj, Jurdas Al Abid, Ajdabiya, Awjila, Ubari, Kufra, Al Kufrah, Al Jufra, Gulf of Sirte, Ash Sharqiyah, Jalu, Ghat, Al Qarda Ash Shati, Brak Ash Shati, Adri Ash Shati, and Al Ghuraifa.
