The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces issued a direct call to the Libyan people, reminding them that the “time for a peaceful popular movement to determine their fate is at hand and cannot be postponed,” addressing the elders and dignitaries of the city of Tarhouna at his military headquarters.
The Final Decision Belongs to the People
In his speech, Field Marshal Haftar asserted that the General Command of the Armed Forces is not the authorized body to make the “decisive decision” concerning the political crisis that has plagued the country for years. He stressed that the Libyan people hold the right to determine the outcome, given they have endured the bitterness of division and the failure of all internal and external efforts to resolve the crisis.
Praise for Tarhouna and the Role of the Armed Forces
Concluding the meeting, the Commander-in-Chief lauded the national role played by the city of Tarhouna, describing it as having paid a “heavy price” for its allegiance and support for the “Dignity Operation” and the Armed Forces.
For their part, the elders and notables of Tarhouna affirmed that the Armed Forces represent the “safety valve for Libya.” They commended its ongoing efforts in establishing security and stability and protecting the nation’s unity and territorial integrity.
