The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, received a high-level United Nations delegation at the Bank’s headquarters this Tuesday. The delegation included the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Dr Abdallah Al Dardari, along with the Programme’s Resident Representative in Libya, Dr Sophie Kemkhadze.
The discussions centred on ways to strengthen the partnership and formalise technical cooperation between the Central Bank and the Development Programme, culminating in an agreement to sign a memorandum of understanding on the matter. The meeting focused on several key areas, including a review of the strategic projects being implemented by the Programme within Libyan territories.
Furthermore, both sides addressed mechanisms for cooperation aimed at developing public finance and the public sector, as well as efforts to combat corruption and money laundering crimes. They also discussed supporting institutional capacity building and skills development. Crucially, the meeting prioritised bolstering support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The two parties stressed the necessity of expanding the scope of financial inclusion and accelerating the digital transformation process. This approach is aligned with the objectives of the National Financial Inclusion Plan adopted by the Central Bank, with a particular emphasis on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in this domain.
