Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the General Commander of the Libyan Armed Forces, hosted a delegation comprising elders, dignitaries, and wise men from the city of Zintan at his headquarters in the military city that bears his name.
The gathering was attended by several senior officials, including the Head of the Libyan Government, Osama Hammad, the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General First Grade Khaled Haftar, the Assistant General Commander, Lieutenant General Bassim Mohammed Al-Bouaishi, and the Director of the General Commander’s Office, Lieutenant General First Grade Ayoub Bousaif.
During the meeting, the Zintan tribal elders and dignitaries confirmed their full backing for the Libyan Armed Forces, affirming their unwavering support for the leadership. The delegation lauded the military’s critical role in establishing security and stability nationwide, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by its personnel.
For his part, the General Commander welcomed the Zintan delegation, acknowledging the pivotal standing of their city. He described its inhabitants as a vital cornerstone for achieving national stability and balance, given their widespread influence on the national stage. Haftar praised Zintan’s honourable history, highlighting its distinguished stance against colonialism, its firm commitment to national unity, and its support for the reconciliation process.
In his address, the General Commander stressed that the primary obstacle to the establishment of a state is the ongoing struggle for, and clinging to, power. Haftar presented a vision for the solution, asserting that the key lies in the Libyan people mobilising to reclaim their rights and determine their destiny. He specified that this mobilisation must be peaceful and guaranteed by the Armed Forces, enabling the public to clearly articulate its demands. This, he argued, would compel the relevant authorities to respond and implement the will of the people. The General Commander reiterated that the Libyan people are the ultimate decision-makers, and the military is committed to safeguarding their peaceful movement towards building the state.
