The Public Prosecution Office has commenced an investigation into the tragic sinking of an irregular migrant vessel off the coast of Sorman, an incident that claimed the lives of 18 migrants. The judicial action was initiated after evidence emerged confirming the involvement of a criminal gang in orchestrating the maritime smuggling operation.
The Prosecution confirmed that it has heard the testimonies of the survivors, conducted the necessary field inspections, and carried out forensic medical examinations on the deceased victims. Subsequently, orders were issued to the relevant law enforcement agencies to apprehend the perpetrators identified through the investigation as members of the criminal network who bear full responsibility for the tragedy.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office affirmed that investigations remain ongoing to ensure accountability for all those proven to be involved in this crime, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives. This ongoing effort forms part of the state’s comprehensive campaign to dismantle human trafficking networks and safeguard human lives.
