The Chairman of the High Council of State (HCS), Mohammed Takala, met with the US Chargé d’Affaires to Libya, Jeremy Brent, at the Council’s headquarters in the capital, Tripoli.

Also present from the Libyan side were the Second Deputy Chairman of the HCS, Moussa Faraj, and the Head of the Political Committee and HCS member, Mohammed Im’azzab. On the US side, the meeting was attended by the Embassy’s Economic Affairs Officer, James Fromson.

The core of the discussions between the Libyan and American parties focused on the latest developments in the country’s political situation, specifically addressing the United Nations roadmap proposed as a pathway for a political resolution in Libya. Furthermore, the parties explored viable mechanisms for implementing this roadmap on the ground.

Another key issue examined during the meeting was the activation of the Constitutional Court and the potential ramifications this step might have on the unity of the Libyan judiciary.

Concluding the session, both sides emphasised the critical importance of sustained, constructive dialogue and cooperation between various Libyan institutions and the international community. They stressed that such collaboration is essential for supporting the country’s stability trajectory and creating the necessary conditions to hold presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest possible opportunity.
